Strep Throat

Addison woke up Wednesday night around 10pm. She was shivering and at the time we were not thinking fever! We were not sure what was going on so I called Nurse One. They were really nice and helped to advise me of what to do. Anyways, after describing what Addison was doing (shivering and crying), the nurse asked if we had taken her temperature. We then did so, at that point it was only 100.4 under the arm. We gave her Tylenol which should have helped reduce the fever. Well an hour later, Addison was on fire!!! We checked her temp this time in the not so pleasant place, it was 104.3.....now we had a scared Mom on our hands. I called Nurse One back, she told me to give Ibuprofen and to give her a luke warm bath. She said that it would take about 45 minutes for the medicine to kick in and she said that I must call back if the fever did not go down to a reasonable temp. Fortunately it went down and Addison got comfortable enough to be able to finally go back to sleep. Addison and I finally got to sleep around 3pm. I promise I am going somewhere with this story.....so the next day, we went to the see Dr. Shelley to find out that she had strep throat. So you would think that a sick child who had been up until 3am in the morning would want to take a nap......Oh, NO. Maybe that was Mommy wishful thinking!!! She normally is very good about going down for a nap; but, not that day. I tried all day along to get her to take a nap so I could sleep too! I was a walking zombie. Nick came home around 3:30 that afternoon. He told me to go back to our room and get some sleep. Do you know within 30 minutes of me laying down, he said that she passed out on the sofa next to him. He took a picture for me.....that bugger!! I'm glad that she is doing much better and that the antibiotics are doing their job!
